Weill Cornell Medical Library Art Show Guidelines

The dual purpose of art shows at the Weill Cornell Medical Library is:
  1. Enhancement of the library environment.
  2. Outreach and engagement with the community.
Guidelines for Exhibit Arrangements and Displaying Art in the Library
  1. Exhibits can be continued for any period of time, from two months to six months (or more) as agreed upon by the Library and the artist(s).
  2. The Library will arrange curation of each exhibit from works submitted by the artists. The final decision on pieces to be included will be made by the Library from the preliminary selections of the curatorial team.
  3. It is generally expected that art will be in place for the full duration of any given show; works will not be hung after the starting date and will not be taken down before the ending date.
  4. Works must be dropped off and picked up between 10am - 6pm on the designated day, unless special arrangements have been made with the Library. Each artist must complete an Art Show Receipt. The title and artist information on the receipt is what will appear in the printed program. Artists should take their packing materials with them upon delivery.
  5. Works will be installed at times that cause the least disruption in the use of the Library by its regular clientele.
  6. Two dimensional art works will hang on walls where the Library has installed the Walker Hanging System molding.
  7. Sculpture can be placed in the locking display cases or on top of the bookshelves outside the Index Medicus Archive or the New Materials area.

Please note: Weill Cornell Medical Library pledges to handle your art work carefully. Please discuss any specific concerns about display of a piece prior to leaving it with us. Please be aware that the Library carries no additional insurance for your artwork, nor hires extra security, and cannot be held responsible for unforeseen situations.

Art Show Visitors
  1. The Library is not open to the public; visitors not affiliated with the Medical Center will need to make special arrangements with the Library to view the art.
  2. For each exhibit, it may be possible to arrange an art show reception as a public viewing to which artists may bring guests and the press may be invited. Generally the sponsoring group will be asked to contribute at least $100 toward the cost of refreshments for the reception. The distribution of announcements about the show/reception by the sponsoring group is encouraged, but all must include "Weill Cornell Medical Library" as the location and first be approved by the Library.
Artist and Pricing Information
  1. The Weill Cornell Medical Library is not a selling operation or sales outlet. It is extremely important that nothing be done to jeopardize the nonprofit status of the Weill Cornell Medical College.
  2. Artists may display their business cards on the day of the reception. The Education & Outreach assistant will forward any requests from outside parties to the artist using the contact information provided on the delivery receipt.
  3. Discussions of pricing information or purchasing will be held in a location outside the institution. The procedure for sales and providing pricing information will be at the discretion of Library administration.
